I think whoever came up with this title was thinking of the 1960 election, not the 1964 landslide. So I'm going to address that....
John F Kennedy won the 1960 election by a slim margin. Republicans charged that the Daley "machine" in Chicago added enough votes of dead people to the total so that instead of Kennedy winning Illinois by 11000 votes, he would have lost it.
They also charged that the Lyndon Johnson organization in Texas - Lyndon Johnson ran as Kennedy's VP - added some 50000 bogus voters to the Democratic column there, giving Texas to the Democrats.
Those two states would have been enough to swing the election to Richard Nixon. There is an unconfirmed story that an official count was finally completed 3 years later that justified the Republican charges, but that Nixon decided not to press the issue in order to avoid a constitutional crisis.
The Republicans waited a long time for revenge, but finally showed in the 2000 and 2004 elections that they could play the same game.
