Road rage is an increasing problem in today's society and anyone who drives a vehicle has probably experienced some sort of road rage at least once. In a split second, a person can go from being calm to being extremely irate and this is what makes road rage so dangerous. With the wide range of personalities utilizing the roadways, one never knows what mental state another person may be in.
There are several things to keep in mind when you are driving a vehicle. First, always keep in mind that a few extra minutes won't make you or break you. Therefore, if you see a vehicle following closely with flashing headlights, signaling you to move to the right, it is best to simply move over when it is safe to do so and allow the impatient person to pass. Many times, the first instinct that some people get is to tap his brakes to "warn" the following driver. This is not advised, because, believe it or not, tapping your brakes is just another form of road rage and can lead to more problems or even an accident. If you allow this person to pass, chances are, you will meet him again at the next red light or even worse, you may find his vehicle upside down in the highway. Secondly, never provoke an already angry person. There are frequent newscasts which display the result of this. You must remind yourself that the other person could be armed and could be crazy. Always swallow your pride and make sure you are able to arrive home to your family safely.
Lastly, and probably most importantly, allowing driving situations to anger you can lead to death eventually. The stresses of driving a vehicle can cause high blood pressure and lead to stroke or heart problems.
As a former instructor for the National Safety Council's "Defensive Driving Class," I suggest that anyone who drives a vehicle should take a defensive driving course and always keep in mind that there are very many mentally unstable characters driving vehicles and it's better to arrive a few minutes late than to not arrive at all. Good Day.
