According to the geophysicists, there is a fault (crack) in the earth's crust under parts of the Indian Ocean that cause these giant tidal waves (tsunamis) when one "plate" in the earth slides over another plate.
There is every indication that the recent tsunami will not be the last. And, there is nothing to indicate that it can't happen as soon as tomorrow. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to date to stop these plates in the ocean from moving and causing these diastrous tides that wash away land and people.
Emergency preparedness with alert systems and evacuation to higher ground is the best that can be offered at this time. Perhaps in the future, better methods will be found that could prevent such horrible happenings. But, until then, we can only hope that the plates remains stationary and we must prepare for the eventuality that they don't. Becuase, as soon as tomorrow, it could happen again!
