Low-cost vacations in Canada

Vacation options in Canada are as diverse as the many geographical features making up this huge traveler's paradise. From hiking in the Rocky Mountains to eating a freshly-caught lobster off the Atlantic shores, from shopping for an afternoon in the world's largest mall in Alberta to hunting black bear in the remote forests of Ontario, the options for vacationing in Canada are endless. But low-cost Canadian vacations? Well, that depends on a few things.

Whether or not one can travel inexpensively in Canada is determined by a combination of four things: the type of vacation chosen, the overnight lodgings chosen, the mode of transportation chosen, and Internet deals.

Finding a low-cost vacation in Canada is easy compared to the task of first choosing where to vacation in this huge country. Spreading from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, this vacationer's paradise offers 10 provinces and 3 territories filled with vacation options.

Wine lovers might set their sights on Nova Scotia's wine country on the Atlantic Ocean or the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia on the Pacific Coast. Either vacation can be low-cost if a traveler takes advantage of an airline seat sale, rents a car and opts to stay in any number of inexpensive motels or campgrounds. (And doesn't spend too much on the delicious Canadian wines they'll discover.)

Whale watchers won't be disappointed once they choose which coast they want to view whales from and the type of whales they hope to see. Killer whales are the darlings of the west coast while giant humpbacks cause excitement on the east coast. Whale watch tour prices are similar on both coasts and if you want to be assured of seeing a whale, then full high season prices will apply. But both of these vacations can be low-cost, if one is willing to wait for an airline seat sale and stay in a motel instead of a more costly hotel.

Hikers and skiers flock to the Rockies, the mountain range straddling the Alberta and British Columbia border. Lodging in tourist destinations like Jasper and Banff can be very expensive, but these towns also have budget motels and there are many campgrounds found throughout the region.

Railroad aficionados might want to discover Canada aboard a VIA rail train. This vacation is not cheap, but deals are available. A watchful vacationer, especially a full-time student, senior, or parents with children will find a variety discounts. In fact, during the summer, kids ride free with one paying adult. Seniors can bring a friend
