How to cure insomnia

sleep disorders. North American diets seem to be more unhealthy than ever and even if your diet is not part of your insomnia it may be a good idea to see a nutritionist anyways and start following a diet to improve your overall health. Again your doctor should be able to verify through a blood test whether or not you have a vitamin or a mineral deficiency.

There are also chronic disorders such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and MS (multiple sclerosis) which have insomnia as a symptom. The lists of symptoms associated with these disorders are often quite extensive and so I will not go into the details here. However, I will say that due to environmental influences and the nature of genetics that these disorders are not going to go away within the next 5-10 years. Even though there has already been remarkable progress in treating these disorders, the cures for most chronic illnesses have eluded researchers.

Finally I'd like to mention that many sleep disorders can be cured by simply having good sleep hygiene. By this I mean going to bed at the same time and getting up at roughly the same time every day. I've met several insomniacs who say they've cured their sleep disorders by simply going to bed when their body is tired. If you are a person that naturally gets sleepy at 8PM but then ends up going to be at 11:30PM you may be missing your sleep window. It is also important that you don't eat large meals before bed because digestion can interfere with sleep. In addition, the temperature level in your room and the relative humidity of the air that you are breathing can also effect sleep.

Traditional remedies such as warm milk with honey and herbal teas (such as chamomile) can be tried as well. In the end I always say that one should try to be optimistic about sleep problems since, even if all your strategies so far have failed, modern medicine is likely to keep plugging away at this age old problem.
