I don't really think there is any particular way you can ensure that your teen is driving safely after getting a license.

You have instilled into them the importance of being alert, not having buddies in the car to distract them, obeying the speed limit laws, wear their seatbelts, no talking on the cell phone while driving. These are all pretty good ways to ensure that they will be safe and not distracted. Once they are down the road and out of our site, as we all know we have done it too the car is full of everyone from school.

You're the cool one, the first one to have your license and everyone wants a ride in the car. Understandable, it is an exciting time in a teens life. I firmly believe we just have to trust and just let them know what you expect out of them, and that there are consequences if they don't respect your rules about using the car or operating a vehicle while living in your house.

I also believe that proper maintenance on the vehicle is a must as well. Kids need to make sure their fluids are all set, they have enough gas, they have an emergency kit just incase and jumper cables. All necessities and hope for the best.
