Starting a home business has been a great benefit for my family. We've been able to save money by eliminating daycare costs, and also make money because of the income that is being generated by the home business.

But, before deciding to start a home business, you should know what being a business owner entails. Starting any business requires some up-front money. Also, there is no guarantee of an immediate paycheck. While you are building your clientele, there may be some lag time where you are making little or no money until your business really starts to take off. If you are not able to handle these situations, then starting a business may not be right for you.

There are also many tax advantages associated with a home business. Things such as your computer, Internet access, phone service, and printer are all deductible expenses. Advertising costs are deductible as well as mileage on your vehicle if you have to deliver items to customers or do other things of that nature. The size of your home office will be calculated as a percentage of your total living space. So, if your home office takes up 10% of your total living space, you will be able to deduct 10% of your electricity bill and rent from your taxes as well. As always, be sure to speak with a tax professional to determine what you are able to legally write off.

Another main benefit is that you are the boss. You are the decision maker in your business. You are the one who decides your work schedule and the daily operations of your business. You set the rules, the budget, and determine all the details.

There is no commuting involved in working from home, which will save you tons of money in gasoline alone. Also, your car insurance rates may be lowered since you are no longer commuting to and from work.

I am very happy that I decided to start a home business. It has been one of the best decisions I've made in my adult life. I've been able to enjoy freedom both financially and with my time. I've worked hard to build my business, and continue to work hard each and every day, but the rewards are so much greater when you work for yourself.
