What do our forefathers have to say about this issue? They knew the downfall of our liberty was imminent, and that the constitution would become subverted, and perverted. Let's take a look at what our forefathers said in warning to us, their descendants and countrymen.
What has happened to this country? The answer is somewhat simple. Thomas Jefferson said that Democracy is nothing more than Mob rule where 51% take away the rights of the other 49%. Since when is majority rule always the right rule? At one time, the majority of the world believed that the earth was flat! Just because the majority believes something does NOT make that correct.
James Madison knew that the constitution, which was to be the supreme law of the land, would become distorted and subject to misinterpretation. It has been said that Text without Context is Pretext. This is a true statement, and I will explain why as quickly as possible. James Madison had said "Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government."
Take freedom of speech, the first amendment for example. That was important because the King of England shut down and jailed journalists for reporting and writing things that were contrary to his rule. Now, in this country, we are losing these freedoms. Reporters say something not politically correct, and they get fired.
Take the second amendment. Without the right to bear arms, the revolution could not have succeeded. The second amendment is NOT there for the military, it is there for the people. Let our forefathers speak on this issue. I remind you, these forefathers, our framers of this country, spoke in context. When you separate the constitution from their testimonies and statements, you have perverted the constitution.
"When the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually.... I ask, who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers." - George Mason, during Virginia's Convention to Ratify the Constitution, 1788.
And folks, I would bet the above statement is a good description of the motives behind current gun control acts. It has been
