Someone told me years ago it takes all your life to learn how to cook and about fifteen minutes to become a chef, basically a job interiew.
If you a chef, especially now-a-days, you need know about biology, chemistry, organization, computer science, managing people and how to deal with stressful situations in a hot or busy kitchen environment.
Alot of home cooks often hear from friends or family when they make some good dishes and think they should open a restaurant or be a chef. Thats great give it a try, work a few fifteen hour days in a row in a hundred degree or hotter kitchen.
Then when you do create good food and get a following, it's constantly a challenge to keep it consistent because everyone is a critic. They say when someone has a good meal they might tell five people but if they have a bad meal they tell twenty.
I involve my daughter in the kitchen whenever possible to get her to appreciate eating and cooking great food, but try and tell her it's not a job you want to do everyday.
