A few years ago my wife, myself and my two teenage Daughters took a drive up from Maryland along the East coast of the United States and into Canada. It was the beginning of July and the weather was perfect.
We had left our city behind. Temperatures of approximately ninety degrees Fahrenheit, with humidity, had become a distant memory. The cool Canadian air welcomed us openly.
We crossed over the Canadian border from Maine on route one and spent our first night in St. John, which is in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick. With both our Daughters in their early to mid teens, they were just discovering their roots. They were both interested in alternative music styles and they loved absorbing their parents on new levels; we all loved being there.
We ventured north east to a town by the name of Halifax. Our eldest Daughter was particularly interested in Halifax at that time, as it was where her favorite singer/song, writer was from; Sarah McLachlan.
We are all of Scottish and Irish descent. This made the whole trip perfect for us, as Nova Scotia has all the touches of Ireland, Scotland and Cornwall rolled into one country. There was a true Gaelic atmosphere, which was emphasized by the sound of 'home grown' Celtic music on the local radio stations; It took us all back in our minds, to a romantic ancestral setting, and put us in the mood for a timeless adventure together.
