How to resist advertising pressure to buy more toys for your child

For one, a parent who uses the television as a diversion is being somewhat delinguent because your child is being hit with the years of psychological knowledge that advertisers have formulated to make adults react, so it would be exponential in their affects on children. If you cannot avoid the television and its capabilities to direct your childrens wants and desires, you need to establish a foudation with your childred that is stronger than the power of the advertising.

You can set goals that you do not alter or change so that a child will recognize boundaries. If you buy them something once a week as both educational and entertaining, do not waver unless it is a special occasion. Also, pay attention and research the things they bring to you as a want or desire. Determine if it is a toy or game that they will not quickly lose interest in because the psychology of the advertisement, becuase if it is something that would make them lose interest, they will quikly lose interest in it without having to buy it.

Use toyas, games, and gifts for a purpose, reward, or special occasion gift. You as a parent are the one who needs to be strong until they are old enough to recognize and start learning the importance of moderation and earning for themselves what they receive. The small lessons you teach them at a young age are the larger lessons they carry with them when they become an adult.
