The seventh inning stretch is held in the seventh inning not only because it is called "The seventh inning" stretch but also because the seventh inning is when things get interesting. In baseball there is no game clock and things can get a little boring unless you are a true baseball fan. In the seventh inning you will usually see the bullpen come out and challenge each other in hopes to preserve the lead they are given or overcome the deficit. The seventh inning is also where you'll see the real clutch hitters play there best. How often have you seen players like David Ortiz or Alex Rodriguez go 0-3 or 0-4 in the first 6 innings but in the last 3 hit a home run? It is really an amazing thing. Occasionally in basketball you may see a team overcome an 8+ point deficit in the final minutes, or even more rare, a football team come back from 2 scores down after the two minute warning, but baseball is a different beast. You can easily see a team down by 5 in the 7th or later come back to win. God I love this game!
