I only know your face
Village of Our Lady
Queen of the Angels
I only know the face I saw
Far beneath the clouds
Blue hazed mountains
Lapped by the waters of the Pacific
A smiling landscape
In the early glow of morning
Or so it seemed
Flying closer
Lower
White mist
Drifting and sweeping
Landing
Sweet hush of wheels greeting earth
Strange being towed
Lumbering strolling motion
Curving and weaving
Powerful wings in the sky
Helpless metal on the ground
Helpless, confuded awe
Grey sheds
Cold relics of another lifetime
Slide by
Time to breathe new air
Customs
Cases
Aisles and queues of faces
Time to breathe new air
Outside
Outside
Heat
Oppressiv e heat
Swirling dust
Dawn gleaming in glassy eyes
Strange bouquets of tropical greens
Clasped in tiered sills
Like incomplete faces in time
An arc of eyes
Coloured flights
Stenciled lines
On many eyes
And the dust swirled
From desert winds
Powder on a strange face
Inside
Inside
I have just a little time
To know you
Lady by the Sea.
Show me!
Show me!
Wandering
Wandering
Arteries of colour
Clamour of haste
So many numbered gates
Spinning
Gypsy tango
Lost in a face of many colours
You could be
Anywhere
Nowhere
Till
A tiny nook
Of empty carry bags
HOLLYWOOD
(White print
Angel white)
Gleaming
On black plastic
Destiny demands
Flying on
Further north
For now
I only know your face
Webbed in travel memories
Like a medley of messages
And a framed stare
But I have a piece of Hollywood by my side
Empty
Waiting
Waiting for
Los Angeles
Next time.
