Resisting the temptation to purchase the latest advertised toy is difficult to say the least. You got one child begging for anything that has to do with 'Spidey" and the other begging for some high priced new video game.
Time and time again you watch the child gaze at the television as the commercial appears. You know how desperately they crave this item, but all the others seem to collect dust now or lay broken in the bottom of an endless bin of waisted money.
How to end the cycle of this advertising circle in your home may seem an never ending battle of wits. The children give reason and promises to convince you to get them their 'can't live without' product. You look to the old prepaid cell phones they had to have or else and think of all the money you have waisted over the years.
Then you come up with a brilliant plan. Make them really want it. Force them to save half of the money. Match the other half for chores or special events like good grades. Don't hand them the money freely. Tell them you will match dollar for dollar what they can save if they can complete their tasks on time and earn half of the money.
By the time they are done saving the money they find that they never really wanted that special gift. This will eliminate the amount of collectibles they have in the bin of forgotten while teaching them responsibility.
