I knew I made it when I did not call my addictive lover for three days.
I was a slave to love.
I was a slave to daily phone calls to him.
I was a slave to roller coaster emotions.
I was a slave to self-torture when his phone was busy or switched off or when he let it ring and ring.
With each ring I would feel as though I was being kicked in my stomach.
But I knew I made it when I felt freer and happier with each passing day.
I knew I made it when I could actually curl up in bed and sleep like a baby.
I knew I made it when I put my cell phone away and did not pick it up for three days.
I knew I made it when I did pick it up and I did not call him.
I knew I made it when I looked out into the world and I was humming a song.
I knew I made it when I could observe my surroundings with the eyes of a happy and fulfilled woman.
And I knew I made it when I walked and skipped like a little girl, carefree and happy to be me.
