When our bodies are in balance both physically and mentally it presents itself in the condition of our hair. Our hair will be radiant and shiny and our scalp should be pliant and moist. Unfortunately on the other hand when we are stressed, this shows immediately in the condition of our hair. It becomes dull and lifeless and very greasy looking, the latter being because our sebaceous glands are traumatized. Another condition affecting our hair caused by stress is Telogen Effluvium, this is a temporary condition, but is caused by the hair follicles going into a resting phase. When resting there is no new hair growth and after a few weeks you begin to loose clumps of your hair which can be very scary. This happened to my mother after the death of my Nan, it wasn't a pleasant time watching her comb her hair and hair just falling out left right and center, and this condition itself causes great stress and depression. My mum went to the Doctor's and was put on a course of Regaine, which is a hair growth product. Within a few weeks there was a noticeable difference and now her hair is back to it's former self. But isn't it scary that being stressed can cause such a major disaster to our hair. Unfortunately too this condition affects women much more than it does men. I think if you are stressed then it is important to get to the route of the problem quickly, write down all the things that you think are causing your stress and try to gradually eliminate them.
