How to recognize counterfeit postal money orders

As a victim of an internet scam on Petfinders.com, involving postal money orders sent through the mail. I can say that it is difficult, to tell if they are real or fake or not. One way to find out if it is valid or not, is to immediately go to your nearest post office and ask the cashier to look at it. They will know whether the money order, is a fake or real. Then, the cashier will instruct you on what to do, once the fake is discovered and verified by them.

Also, you can hold it up in the light, in order to see changes in the special watermarks that can't be duplicated in a printed copy. If you don't see any changes in the watermark, then most likely you have a fake money order. If you are still unsure, take it to local bank and ask the teller if it is valid or not. Bank tellers are trained to spot a fake and will be glad to show you how to spot one also. Honestly, anyone can be a victim of a scam, so always take precautions to avoid this.

When selling merchandise over the internet, only deal locally or with a reputable site. EBay and other websites, have warnings for consumers and sellersRead them! Never agree to accept an amount above what you agreed upon. Always, ask for personal information and deal in cash only, whenever possible. Only knowledge and caution can help you to avoid, being the next victim of this heinous crime that is targeting unsuspecting people.

Remember, is to keep all emails and information that pertain to each sale you make. Never deal with someone that seems illusive or will not give their personal information to you. Immediately notify the police and gather all information that will be needed. Also, call the local postal Inspector and tell them all the information they ask for. Only the victims can stand up to these devious people, who are trying to get something for nothing.
