Forgiveness allows you to move past something, not allowing it to control you with rage or bitterness. It does not mean you agree with what was done, nor are you granting permission for it to happen again.

The old adage "forgive and forget" has long since been replaced by people stating, "I can forgive you, but I cannot forget what you have done". Although there may be circumstances were one can "forget" as well, I would have to say I would not forget that a friend slept with my man.

If it was a boyfriend or fiance, I can be certain that I would end our relationship immediately. If we were married, I would really have to consider my decision. Vows are solid to me, even if he breaks them, I most likely would try to move past the first episode, but that would be the only chance.

My friend,however, would no longer be welcome in my life. I never took vows stating that I would remain with her through good and bad. If she allowed that to happen once, she has probably done it before and will most likely do it again. And if she is crass enough to sleep with my man, what else would she do without caring of consequences?

Would I forgive her, yes. So I could be free of the connection that would remain if I were to harbor anger or bitterness towards her. I could not forget what she had done and would always wonder in the back of my mind if she was trustworthy. Ending the friendship and moving on would be the best thing for me to do.
