The benefits of assertiveness

Here are some methods on how you can be more assertive, get what you want, and improve the quality of your life.

1. You have a right to your opinions and they have a right to theirs. Not only this, but you are equally as valuable as the person whom you are debating.

2. You can disagree without being disagreeable. Disagreement does not have to equal conflict unless either party makes the decision that it is a conflict.

3. People appreciate it when you are assertive. This way they know exactly what you want and they will better be able to communicate based on your known needs.

4. Being assertive is the proper balance between being passive and being aggressive. The assertive mindset is born out of an equal perception of the rights of yourself and others.

5. You can improve your level of assertiveness by stepping outside your boundaries in small increments. For example if the food is cold as the restaurant you will let the waiter know about this instead of not saying anything.

6. The more you love and accept yourself the more others will accept your assertive behavior. You can be charismatically assertive, in that you make the other person feel good about themselves while at the same time making your needs be known. This is a necessary skill for politicians and business leaders.
