I agree that the cultural concept of cleanliness differs from country to country, but at the same time, natural organic microbes and bacteria that one is accustomed to during childhood are not definitely the same ones that you will encounter while traveling abroad.
Realistically, plan on getting a little sick. Allergies affect you regardless of which country you are in and the fact that you will be exposed to new foods only heightens the possibility of infection. This process occurs with time and depending on whether you spend a long or short time in your new host country, will reflect which hospital or pharmacy you will be visiting.
Plan ahead. Take medication you might need with you if your foreign language skills could be better. If you are lucky to be in a larger sized city, Wal-Mart might even carry what you are looking for.
