Driving, happily, is all it is cracked up to be. Meaning that it is fun, many times relaxing, and gives a person of power and mobility. However, there are times that driving can be stressful, and one of those times is when you are navigating through sharp turns. So how do you get through these sharp turns without dying? Basically you need to remember three things: speed, steering, and control.
SPEED
As soon as you hit those sharp turns, lower your speed. You are not in a race and NASCAR is not recruiting in your area, so slow it down. Don't ride the brakes, keep your foot hovering over them in the hairy areas.
STEERING
Steering is a little tricky. Of course you want to make sure you keep your turns tight enough to match the curves of the road, but there is something that many people forget. There is a lot of road. If you are alone or there are not many people around as you drive, feel free to take up more than one lane. If you see a particularly sharp turn ahead, start out wide on it and allow yourself to pull around that turn tightly. Starting wide will give you more room to maneuver and you will feel more in control.
A final issue with steering is this. If the back end of your car starts to swing or swerve, be sure to steer the same direction as the swerve. Steering the opposite direction worsens the swerve, while steering with it gives you back the control you need.
CONTROL
Finally, you must maintain firm control of your vehicle at all times. Controlling speed and steering will help you with this. Don't be bashful about going slow. If you are uncomfortable and feel control slipping away at a higher speed, don't worry about matching the speed of those around you. Go the speed you feel gives you the best control.
So on those sharp turns, just remember speed, steering and control. Good luck and good driving!
