Knowing the difference between a hub and a router

most of the routers come with switches attached to them. Switches and Hubs both serve the same function of connecting computers together via Ethernet. The difference between the two is that Hubs can't technically transmit data to more than one connected system at once. It will switch between each computer very quickly, but cannot send to more than one at once. Such as sharing an internet connection. A router is something that can take a single net connection, such as a DSL connection, and share it between multiple computers by a switch or hub attached to it. some of the routers are with a built-in switch. Routers also have built-in port protection, so it's basically a firewall. You can also forward ports to specific computers on the network so you can run servers, etc. on separate systems.
