Being a mum of two and having Multiple Sclerosis, my chances of employment are not very high, I can never tell when I will be well enough to work or not. Saying that now my children are both at school all day I get very fed up and down at times. Staring at four walls and having no real human communication all day long can make the days very long and lonely. So I decided to make a stand, I phoned around several charity shops to ask if they needed any help. I explained that I had MS and so I was not really a great reliability to them, but when I could I would like to help out. This became a turning point for me, I could basically go in whenever I liked, I worked with several other people, working on the till I spoke to many people, sometimes for lengthy conversation, I no longer felt isolated and I was doing something good for others. The fact I never got paid did not even come into it, I now feel more satisfied with my life, I have an escape outlet, my four walls are no longer closing in on me and it is also benefiting people that need it. An all round great ego boost for me.
