Survey sites: How they really work

PARTICIPATING IN ONLINE SURVEYS

Make money from home! Be entered into our $50,000 drawing! The advertisements, for the most part, are a bunch of big fat lies. I'm speaking from experience. Sure, being entered into a drawing might be true and I could win the lottery.

When I enrolled in a few online survey groups, my email box became flooded with spam from a lot of third party advertisers, offers, creating a home-based business, life insurance, buying a new car, home mortgage deals, and you name it. Every time I went to my email I had about 70 new messages to plow through (mostly hitting the delete button). As I write, I still get a plethora of offers and so-called opportunities.

The main thing that disgusted me about these survey companies was the requirement to accept an offer in order to qualify, meaning spending money out of my own pocket, not earning any money. The survey companies would give me "points" redeemable for cash and prizes.

I stayed faithful to the idea that I'd be earning real money pretty soon, but lost it when I woke up to the fact that most of these companies are self-serving rip-off artists. Furthermore, for them to say they wouldn't share my information with third parties ha ha.

I even get telephone calls from people about starting a home business because I expressed an interest on some web site. I just tell the caller I've changed my mind. The money-making scheme costs at least $30 a month and since thousands of others are buying into it, I don't see an opportunity to earn $30 a month to pay for my site (at $0.10 per click), let alone make a profit.

Okay, it's true that I have been gullible a real dream of a sucker to the wolves in the guise of survey companies.

In spite of my disgust with survey companies, I joined another one the other night. I read an article about how most of the survey groups are fraudulent, but there are a few legitimate survey companies. This ad apparently was written by people doing research to separate the legitimate from fraudulent survey groups. I joined the one that was given top honors for actually paying and being honest. Not only that, but as a last ditch effort to make money from home, I paid $50 to join. Some of you are laughing right now . . . thinking what a fool I am. It's too soon to tell. There is a thirty-day money-back guarantee, so if I don't actually make an amount over $50 by the end of 25 days, I will definitely request the money back. I'm in the process of following the rules by signing up with the survey groups listed on the web site. Also, I've opened a different email account just for the survey email.

Here's hoping I don't get bombarded with junk mail from this. Most of all, I hope this really is legitimate with real money coming my way, a nice supplement to my Social Security Disability benefits.

If you're curious enough to learn more about why I joined the top-rated survey company, go to http://reviewwritersforum.edit board.com/index.htm and read the article, "Paid Survey Sites Scam."
