Don't we all want to find meaning in our work? Most of us spend at least 40 hours every week at out workplace, therefore it forms one of the most substantial parts of out lives.
It is very important to feel that you are contributing in some way in your life. One excellent way of achieving this would be to identify an issue that you feel strongly about or connected to and work for a nonprofit organization that in some way contributes to this cause. In this way you could be one of the few people that finds a passion in their work.
However, I would issue a word of caution. As someone who forms a large part of their business consulting to non profits I know that there are two kinds. There are the kinds that truly strive to make a difference, however small, to a world that needs nothing more than compassion. The other type is the ones that are in it for the tax break and for self-serving purposes.
Many non profits around now fall into that latter category. They are run by opportunistic people who saw an opportunity to make a buck and not have to pay tax on it. These people abuse the very basis of charity and create a general sense of suspicion in the community.
If you decide to follow your passion and work for a nonprofit make sure you research the charities first. Pick one that will make a difference, is in line with your ethos and also one that is going to pay a reasonable but not extravagant wage. Through following these simple steps I believe that you can find true fulfillment in your work.
