Poetry: New York City

by Akramah

Dance to the big apple's rhythm
________________________ ____
Like soldier ants
From a disturbed anthill
We swarm upon the city
And clog its veins;
We sway and rock
To the rhythm
Of metal upon metal
We snake along the path
Between the dream
And its realization;
We each have our dreams-
Many pairs of eyes,
A similitude of vision
And varied ocular illusions.

Our steaming breaths
Boil the concoction
Of our dreams,
Our lusts and our roots
Into a healing balm
For prejudice
In this monstrous cauldron.

Our heads bump
Ever so lightly
Against each other
From the debt of many nights
Of slumber owed
Our hearts reach out and burn
On cold, frozen stones
Of fear-
Each bold step
Is measured
And celebrated
Before
The next
In this dance
To the rhythm
Of Big Apple's pulse
Where the eyes,
Glazed and dazed,
Are ever watchful
For the confirmation
Of the transformation
From frustrated victim
To lurking thief of life
May be the pain in the heart
From a knife
Or a bullet in the head.

What New York City Means to Me

    We had a fight,
    we dileberated

    over the idea
    that we were
    going nowhere fast.

    "MY NEW YORK "

    I've lived in New York
    For many a year
I went to school - in Harlen
    AND never had a fear...

    I rode the subways
    Never
