The very best Baby planning tip for newlyweds is compare notes!
Communicate EARLY with your life partner if babies are a part of YOUR future plans. Don't spring it on them on your wedding night! I would even go so far as to bring it up early in the relationship, maybe as early as the FIRST date. After all if babies are in your future plans, it makes sense to limit the field of possibilities at least to those who are on the same page to start.
THEN as you begin thinking of a future life together, you can explore the legistics of how many children, how soon after the wedding, who will be responsible for child care,if all the EARLY talk of babies and the long investment they require doesn't scare off your wedding partner then proceed and stick to the plan.
You may think, I am saying not to have babies sooner than planned and in part I am, but just as many marriages end in divorce after one or the other decides they didn't really want children after all. If you do happen to find yourself in this unfortunate position, better to get out of the relationship and not 'force' children on the hesitant partner. Regrets and ill feelings do nothing towards making a child feel safe and secure and seldom 'cements' a marriage as some people hope.
In a nut shell, communicate and keep communicating and then work together on your goals for parenthood at all stages!
