If you assume that your vote is counted and correctly tabulated, the question of how much your vote actually counts in the electoral college depends on where you live. If you live in a small state such as Wyoming, your vote counts about four times as much as if you live in a big one such as New York or California. Wyoming has 3 electoral votes and a population of just over 515,000. Texas has 34 electoral votes and just over 23.5 million residents. This works out to about 691,000 people per electoral vote in Texas and a bit over 171,000 people per electoral vote in Wyoming. These 2 figures are, respectively the largest and the smallest electoral vote total per person in the nation. The framers of the constitution decided on this system to minimize the strength of large states in controlling the nation's destiny and it does a very good job of that indeed. It turns the principle "One man/person, one vote" into hogwash and is probably an anachronism. Since there are many more small states than large ones, the only way the electoral college is likely to be abolished is if the residents and legislators of the small states become more concerned with the national good than with "what's in it for me?"
