Infant stimulation is important in every babies life. It helps their brain to develop intelligence. The use of black and white images/designs have been used to stimulate, capture and hold their attention. Babies are drawn to objects especially in black and white; the contrasting colors help them to perceive depth.
In some hospitals, black and white stimuli is used in clinical evaluations in monitoring babies with Cortical Visual Impairment. These acuity tests are very important in the diagnosis and well being of the babies.
Colored objects are also used to help develop their visual skills. Colors like red, green, yellow and blue are being used. By the time the baby is about 4 months of age, he will be able to distinguish all colors.
In 2005, Fisher Price developed the Miracles & Milestones toy line for infants. These toys were produced in contrasting colors of black and white. Although parents don't find them attractive, they were created to help stimulate the infants brain. Other toy manufactures followed by making toys such as mobiles, rattles, blocks, etc. patterned in black and white. Today, the market is filled with black and white strollers, high chairs, nursery items, etc. The craze has hit the nurseries across America.
