Poetry: Breathing

One More Breath

I lay here beside you,
listening to your quiet breath.
It comforts and caresses my soul.
It tells me you're still here,
still a part of me.
I listen as I pray.
Keep breathing, I pray.
Let me feel your warm breath
on my cheek.
I hold your hand, as silence enfolds us.
I kiss you
as the last breath escapes your lips.
Tears fall.
Just one more breath, I pray,
please, one more breath.
Don't leave me here to cry.

    Breathing,
    Ahh,
    The essence of life.
