Top ten places to visit in Europe

Although as a British subject I live in Europe, I have not travelled extensively around it's many countries. My top ten places include some I have visited, and others which I would love to see and will one day.

SWITZERLAND

When I visited here I was just so overwhelmed with the cleanliness of the air and the countryside, it's beautiful scenery and wonderful architecture. No matter where you went there was another wonder to behold around the next corner. The sight of Swiss cows, wearing cow bells, wandering along the road reminded me of the book HEIDI. We visited in September and so it was lovely weather, with no snow except for on the really high ground. This made the panoramic views really special. The prettiest place we went to was Grindlewald with spectacular mountains all around.

AUSTRIA

We visited Austria as part of the above holiday and loved it, but in a slightly different way to Switzerland. It had everything that Switzerland had but the scenery was just that bit more rugged. Both these countries have wonderful ski-ing, if you visit at the right time of year. They have lakes, good food and drink and offer a relaxing holiday which could include walking if you so desire. They are both a little pricey however.

PARIS - FRANCE

I have only ever travelled through France, on my way to some other country but would love to see Paris. Paris is a city which has museums, art galleries, atmosphere, the Eiffel Tower, the River Seine, pavement artists, good restaurants and shops, Notre Dame, theatres and entertainment. The list is really endless. I feel it is a city which takes on a different character with the changing seasons, has something for everyone but will always be romantic.

LONDON - ENGLAND

London is a fine City with a cosmopolitan feel and many attractions. There are Palaces , The Houses of Parliament, numerous museums ,art galleries, Covent Garden, Harrods, cruising on the River Thames and the Theatres. London is an exciting, vibrant city which has lots to offer including night life.

EDINBURGH - SCOTLAND

Edinburgh has a lot to offer in the way of history. There is the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, galleries, statues, Princess Street shopping, all in a great setting. Just outside of Edinburgh there is the Royal Yacht Brittania which you can visit. It is moored near Leith and is kept as a museum.

BERLIN-GERMANY

Since the Berlin wall, which divided the east from the west, came down this city has undergone many changes. Berlin is interesting and different to visit and well worth a mention.

ROME - ITALY
I would love to visit Rome some day and see the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, the architecture and shops, plus learn about the history of the Romans.

FLORENCE - ITALY

A beautiful picturesque city. This one is definitely not for the clubbers amongst us. It has beautiful buildings and churches, culture and scenery. Wonderful.

GREECE

I have visited the Greek Islands many times. Greek people are warm and friendly and very generous. The Islands are wonderful to visit for a relaxing scenic break. Each Island varies so much that it is like visiting a different country. Pick your Island to suit you, and you should be able to find one that is perfect for your taste, no matter what. If you visit the mainland you will find lots of historical sites to enjoy.

PORTUGAL

I have included Portugal as that is where we are holidaying this year. It is a country of many different attractions. Some parts have a great night-life and good beaches. Others offer great golfing and scenery. Further north it is less hot and there is wonderful architecture. Having met Portuguese people on Madeira I can safely say that they are lovely. So I am looking forward to seeing this new country. New for us that is.
