Changing Christmas tree decorations inexpensively, year to year

One of the best ways to decorate and have a little holiday spirit infusion is to have a craft day in the weeks before Christmas. You can accumulate various materials all year long. Some of the things to look for during the off season are yarn, little wooden (unpainted) frames, glitter, ribbons, beads, etc. There are many sculpty products, pipe cleaners, wooden cut-outs, papers and scrap-booking odds and ends that are great for ornaments. If you visit your local craft store, you will find a vast, endless array of crafting supplies, something for every age group and level of ability. Kids love decorating the little wooden or styrofoam picture frames and hanging their picture on the tree. (These also make great gifts for grandparents.) There are glass painting supplies. You can decorate cheap, plain bulbs. You can use cookie cutters (a kid favorite) to press shapes out of clay. Paint them (try colored glazes made with Elmers glue and paint mixed), let them dry and spray with an acrylic sealer. Another favorite is 'Shrinky Dinks', the plastic sheets you draw on, color, and then shrink in the oven. These make great ornaments. (You may have to order your Shrinky Dink sheets on line.) Whatever you do, don't forget your hole punch and string or wire.

I hope this gives you a few ideas.
