As the saying goes, "If you save one life, you are a hero. If you save 1000 lives, you are a NURSE!" Having been out of school for 2 semesters, I have been asking myself this question. Do I really want to go back to school? Should I become a nurse?

I started my job as unit secretary over four years ago. I soon became a multi-skilled tech. I trained as a scrub tech. for labor and delivery. I have loved every thing I have been trained to do and I do it very well. The more I learned, the more I wanted.

I went back to school to finished all the basic courses needed before entering the nursing program. I finished last summer and since the school only picks so many students for its program once a year, I am having to wait until they pick again, which by the way is in May. I am getting nervous.

Nursing is a very rewarding profession. I have seen first hand what all the nurses do and I gotta say, they are great. Unless you have seen a nurse work, one will never know what all is involved. It's so much more than just passing out medicines. Having so much paper work, dealing with physicians, family members, telephone calls, but most important of all, is taking care of the patient. In order for nurses to do their job, they have to love it. It has to be more than just a paycheck.
