Remembering Sunsets
Fingers of light from the setting sun
Kiss cotton candy clouds
With soft pastel pink and lavender.
I watch in silence and remember
The times we watched sunsets
Painting evening skies over the ocean.
We spent hours walking the beach
Dodging the slapping waves,
Laughing when we failed to notice
The sand shifting beneath our feet,
Tossing us into the salty water.
Talking for hours, I learned to
Appreciate the unbelievable person
You had grown to be.
It seems like only a few years earlier,
I held you in my arms in wonder
at the miracle of your birth.
Remember? A year ago you
Shared your dream to have a
Baby of your own.
You said your clock' was winding down.
I laughed and told you, you had plenty of time.
Tonight, we await the birth of that baby
you've wanted for so long.
My baby girl, soon to be a mother
to her baby girl.
We share together the sunsets.
The tears, the fears and the dreams.
My darling daughter -
You will be a wonderful mom!
Soon we can share the cotton candy clouds
And rainbow sunsets with another.
Dreams do come true.
