Cutting costs of heating doesn't mean you have to freeze. Dressing a little warmer is not only smarter for containing and holding body heat it can also help protect your skin. Wear long sleeve shirts over a t-shirt or under shirt. Wearing a sweater is also an option.
Use a lap blanket when sitting watching television or reading the Sunday news. By turning the thermostat down a few degrees you will save drastically on your monthly heating charges. Be aware that you should never be cold. If you find it too cold try adding a vaporizer to the room. The hot steam from the unit will moisten and warm the air.
Keep active during the day. An active body creates burns calories thus creating you to use its energy to keep you warm. Eat healthy foods that turn into energy easily.
Reduce the temperature at night, shut down vents nightly except for the ones that are being directly used. You may want to completely seal off vents that are no longer used for example, the spare bedroom or guest bathroom.
When waking in the morning, it will be colder than you are used to. Grab some slippers and a heavy house coat. Don't crank the heat to try to hurry the process of heating the house. Adjust it to its usual temperature setting then open the vents you will be using.
Go about doing your morning tasks, such as brushing your teeth or making a pot of coffee. In no time, you will be comfortable and starting off another day.
