Common math misconceptions

Maths follows you through out your life. Many people think that if they are not good at maths they can stop thinking about maths when they leave the school. The fact is that maths continues for the rest of your life.

There is often a misconception that maths is tough. Not really! If you practice more and more you can easily learn it.A basic foundation is all what is required to learn maths. The basic foundation has to be laid when you are very young.A book That I recently read showed me how to do addition ,subtraction, multiplication and division of very large numbers within seconds. After I went through the book I wished,if I had come across this book before.Let me give a simple example to multiply two numbers in seconds.

Example:23 * 24(Multiply)

23 and 24 are higher than reference number 20.Then calculate how high the numbers are.23=20+3 and 24=20+4.

Then we add diagonally as,23+4=27
24+3=27

Now multiply 27 and 20.For this,27*2=54and add a zero to multiply by 10.the answer is 540.
Now,
4*3=12

Add 540+12=552

So 552 is the answer.
This is just an example to show how maths can become simple with proper techniques
and practice.

Maths is used every where in life.Go out and buY things from a shop.Maths is required to calculate how much money you need to pay and how much you will receive back.Maths is involved in counting the huge amount of money you withdraw from the bank.If you are made cashier of some fair in your city, you need to count a lot of small currency notes. So maths is involved every where.

Another major misconception I had when I was at school was about fractions. Is 1/4 or 1/3 greater? The answer is 1/3 and not 1/4.This can be easily understood by drawing two circles and and dividing one into three and other into four and shading one part.
