It is not the same thing for a woman to request a raise as it is for a man. I hate to say it; but it's simply another example of the double standard that envelopes society-which everyone seems reluctant to address.
The truth is, most bosses or supervisors are simply not expecting this type of assertive behavior from women. They respond differently.
Unfortunately as women, we have to tread lightly here. Now is the time to be feminine and charming-while at the same time being smart and sophisticated. Sound like a tall order?
If you come on too strong and your boss is a man, he may be intimidated. If you are too weak, he'll walk all over you.
Is there a solution? Absolutely! Be confident, but don't be pompous or arrogant. Look your boss in the eye when you talk to him.
Whatever you do; DON'T try to "flirt" your way to higher wages. This could lead to jealousy around the workplace, not mention will probably cause discomfort in your boss.
Just be you. The you that deserves the raise. And be sure you look great the day you meet with your boss!
Have fun!
