Craniosacral therapy explained

Craniosacral therapy states that the body has rhythmic movements in the fluid systems of the body. This movement can be felt by the hands of those trained in the techniques and sensitive enough to feel it. The suture lines of the skull are manipulated to facilitate healing by correcting the fluid rhythms. The practitioner looks for blockages or changes from the understood rhythms of the body which are termed tides or breathe'. The practitioner then adjusts the body with non-invasive pressure to encourage the body to heal itself.

The theory was proposed by Dr. William Sutherland, an osteopath, in 1898. He noticed the beveled edges on the suture lines of the brain and theorized that they were meant to move against each other. Sutherland studied the movement and proposed the theory. From this observation, the field of craniosacral therapy was born. The blocked movement of the body explained illness. The body reasserting the normal flow of fluids results in health.
