One of the most powerful and empowering statements you can make is "I choose to live". Once you understand that living is something that you have control over you can approach life in a different way. This may stretch your comfort zone, so get a cup of tea and be prepared to open your mind.
You don't have to get up in the morning. You don't have to pay your bills. You don't have to shower. You don't have to answer to anyone else. You are very much in control over choosing to live. Some choose to view it as a responsibility. Others see it as a gift from a higher being. Some don't see a purpose at all and they eventually make another choice.
We must understanding that dieing is an option. We can choose to take that leap. Faith may tell you where this leap will take you, but it is a belief not a surety. For some it's doesn't seem like a viable alternative.
So what inspires us to live? It is certainly a very personal decision, but perhaps there are some basic commonalities that most of us share. Maybe we can explore these.
*Need to love and be loved
Is there something in the very nature of humankind that seeks out the need to love? Are we loving by nature until we learn hate?
Babies can not survive alone, is it instinct? Whatever the reason the need to love and be accepted is a strong motivator in our world.
It may even be a reason to live.
*Deep religious beliefs
Many believe that they were sent to this earth with a purpose or as a test. This is great motivation not only to live, but to live in a certain manner. There are thousands of religions and most of them put value on "living".
*Calling to a greater cause
Even atheists can feel a greater cause for being alive. Anyone can feel that they have something to contribute to society or a family that no one else can fulfill. Perhaps their writing, art or music are unique and they feel the calling to be alive and share their talents.
*Fear of the alternative
Fear is a great motivator and there are no guarantees about what happens to the soul or even if there is a soul when we die. There are many firm beliefs, but they are faith based. Who is right? If you are going to some place filled with fire and terror you may choose to live with things here.
*Continuing inspiration
Some people would call it guilt. You live, because your parents lived and you owe it to your kids. Or perhaps you just feel like you aren't finished here. Maybe when you feel complete living is not longer a necessity.
So perhaps you've finished your tea and have some thoughts on why we live. Care to share?
