It's 6:30 in the morning. I have class at 7:45 but taking the innumerable buses from my off campus apartment to my on-campus first period American Literature class takes half an hour in and of itself, not including my regular morning routine of washing my face and brushing my teeth (another five minutes), and the five minute trek through the swarms of students who are apparently as masochistic as I am, for they, too, are on campus at this godforsaken hour of the morning.
I know that I am far from those girls who wake up two hours earlier just to dry their hair and cake on make-up. I fully recognize the fact that I am wearing an oversized t-shirt that drops down to my knees and pajama pants, and I have two words to say to all of those who scrutinize my disheveled appearance: So What?
My pajama pants cover skin, they're loose fitting, and they are comfortable. What more could I ask from an item of clothing with such versatility that it can get me from my unmade but comfortable bed to my rigid lecture hall seat?
Today, many pajama pants designs even look less like sleepwear and more like comfortable "lounge" wear, so much so that my PJ pants collection has now been diversified to include a wide-range of designs from hundreds of tiny Tinkerbelle representations to simple solid colors.
Either way, let's be honest with each other. There are definitely some instances where pajama pants are not acceptable in public. In general, you may want to avoid donning them at funerals, weddings, and bar mitzvahs; but, in addition, you might want to leave them at home when you're heading off to work. But, if you're making a quick run to the supermarket for .2 seconds or you're heading to class at the crack of dawn, then why not? The bottom line is: they are just pants.
On that closing note, carry on college students! Carry on!
