Craft: Wreaths for all seasons

Great looking wreath made of pine cones, fir cones, oyster shells and star fish

Supplies needed- grapevine wreath, sea shells and/or oyster shells, dried starfish, small pieces of drift wood, different types of pine and/or fir cones, wire, hot glue gun.

Start by arranging the larger pine cones on the grape vine wreath. This is a matter of taste, but I like to have at least two kinds of pine cones-the long slender ones and the short stubby ones. When you have them arranged to your satisfaction, wire them to the wreath-I use hot glue as well. When the pine cones are all securely in place, fill in the gaps with smaller fir cones or other dried cones and pods. The wreath will be most interesting if a variety of cones and pods are used. I like to use a variety of sizes as well. These are lighter weight so they can simply be placed on using hot glue. Then, scatter a few oyster shells or clam shells arund the wreath and top off with a large dried star fish. I generally add a couple smaller star fish as well. These also can be hot glued on.

I also made a similar wreath using the shells from green lipped muscles from New Zealand. These are a very irridescant green color and look very nice with the pine cones. I used these with some showing the back side which is very green and some showing the inside which is pearly looking with a nice green edge. I found some packages of colored star fish in a local store and put white star fish on this wreath. It lookes very nice. Another one I did was using clam shells that have a blue color. I scattered these around the wreath and had a couple blue colored star fish to finish it off.

I would not hang this wreath on a door because of the weight of the materials, the hot glue may not hold through opening and closing the door too many times. I would hang these wreaths on a wall next to the door.
