Great college football rivalries

When anyone speaks of a great college football rivalry, the first thing that pops into my mind is the Red River Shootout, which is the University of Oklahoma versus the University of Texas.

Every year in October during the Texas State Fair, a storm of crimson and cream comes from the north and burnt orange and white comes from the south to meet in Dallas and duke it out for bragging rights for the next year. The atmosphere that is created around the Cotton Bowl is amazing because you have two schools who truly hate each other coming together to cheer on their respective teams.

There is no need to have tickets for the game. All across the fair are televisions surrounded by fans from both schools who talk a lot of noise and get really rowdy. Sometimes it even gets a little physical, but that is what makes the game so much fun.

Plus, this game (almost every year) determines the winner of the Big 12 South and a bid to the championship. Both teams are the best in the conference, which makes this game more like a championship than just a regular conference game.

For a great college rivalry, nothing beats the OU-Texas game. Year in and year out, this rivalry continues to grow and thrive deep in America's heartland.
