The eye is what is attractive, not the lid. If you want to get into fun and funky colors, thats fine. This article will only cover making what we used to call a 'model eye'. It works equally well on every eye shape and eye color.

You will begin with, of course, freshly cleansed, toned and moisturized skin. Remember to not use the same type of moisturizer on your eyes as the rest of your face. Use a product of your choosing that is formulated for eye area only.

Use a base over your entire eye and under eye; dust with light powder. Obviously, avoid a 'crepe-like look'. Blend well. What you are doing is creating a canvas of 'perfection' to work upon.

Begin with dark brown eye liner, under eyes. You can use any kind that works best for you. The only rule is, use dark brown and not black. This is because brown looks good universally, and black can look harsh on some people. Next step, use a taupe or camel brown on the entire lid, to the pocket before the brow bone. You can use any formulation you like, as long as the color is taupe or beige-like. Go for the slightly darker tone if you are darker complected. The idea is to obliterate the lid, and draw attention to the eyeball itself. Next, sweep the same liner you used on the bottom on the top, right next to the lash line. Make sure it looks blended or smudgy and not a hard line.

Finish this eye with 2 coats of BLACK mascara. Any formulation that works well for you, just as long as it is black.

These are the easiest steps to a 'model eye'. Of course, you want to have your brows done properly first, but that is another article!
