Hotel travel tips

As a hotel desk clerk, there are many travel tips that seem like common sense to me, but apparently they are not to everyone. Do not leave cash in your room! It is not unusual to have your room cleaned every day, and usually by a different housekeeper, and it is customary to tip the housekeeper. If you leave cash in the room, the housekeeper may think that is supposed to be a tip.

Do not announce your room number in front of anyone you do not know. Desk clerks are not supposed to speak your room number, it should be written down. If the desk clerk does announce your room number, tell them you would like another room, and tell them why.

Do not flash large amounts of cash. This is a temptation for anyone that sees it, and it could come up missing, if you are not carrying it on your person.

Always use main entrances to go to your room.

If you feel unsafe, call the front desk and tell them so, they should do everything in their power to make you comfortable.

Hopefully these tips will keep you safe and happy during your next stay at a hotel.
