We love celebrity gossip in the same way that we crane our necks to see a car accident. The temptation to know what's going on, what's causing the stir, is just too hard to resist.
Celebrities are in our faces, staring out at us from the covers of magazines. It is natural for us, as inquisitive humans, to want to know more about them. We especially want to know more about the wild things they think, or the crazy things they do.
Fans naturally gravitate to the headlines blaring news on the world's most famous celebrities like Angelina, Brad, Madonna, Paris, and Britney. But even those of us who have no allegiance to the celebrities still cast a glance over news stories detailing their latest fiascoes.
How can even a relatively disinterested person resist reading details about Britney's meltdown, a meltdown that lead to her completely shaving off her hair? Or reading the details behind Angelina's decision to adopt another child because she wanted to balance the skin color in her family? Or the story behind Larry Birkhead, the man who fathered Anna Nicole Smith's daughter, Dannie Lynn?
As long as celebrities continue to provide fuel for the media, we will continue to consume the articles. And like the car accident we happen across, some of us will give only a glance while others of us will take a good long look.
But one way or the other, we will remain interested in celebrity news.
