I don't think America is ready for a Mormon president, and I say that not because I hold any prejudice against Gov. Romney or against Mormons in general, but because it is the reality of the situation.

The country is pretty evenly divided between liberals and conservatives, most elections are decided by the 20% or so that are sitting on the fence in the middle.
Conservatives vote mostly republican and liberals vote Democrat; unless, the candidate for their party strays too far from the principals of that party, in which case they either stay home, go independent, or do the unthinkable and vote for the other party.

I don't believe that evangelicals, who while not anywhere near a majority of the party, are a vocal and very organized block, will not support a Mormon. Democrats, no matter how disgusted or disillusioned they may be with their own candidate will not support anyone with such fundamental beliefs as a practicing Mormon has.

Bottom line: liberals are too afraid of religion taking over government, and evangelicals want only their brand of Christianity to run the government.
