How retirees can cut home heating costs

The best way to cut heating costs as a retiree is to spend the winter in a warmer climate. If you live in a cold climate, with the current cost of home heating fuels, you can often pay for the cost of your winters away with the heating costs savings.

If you live in a northern state, or Canada, you can spend November through February or March in a southern state, or Mexico, and pay very little to heat your northern home. Just winterize it by turning off the water and draining the pipes, put a little antifreeze in the toilet, and keep the heat on just enough to keep the foundation from freezing and cracking.

You can rent a trailer in Arizona for less than your heating bill would be, and of course you'll also have the benefit of spending the winter in a warmer climate. It's a lot easier to remain fit and active when you can get out and walk and move around, and not have the cold trapping you indoors.

So if you live in a cold climate and want to really cut your heating costs, consider moving to a warmer climate for the winter months. You may find that the money you save on heating pays for the cost of your winter abode in the sunnier more clement locale.
