It may be a cliche, but heartfelt love is expressed daily in the little things you do. Little touches, unexpected embraces, stealth kisses, and outrageously spontaneous words of love. Yes, women like to be surprised by a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates (if they're not on a diet). They like to be taken out to a movie (her choice) or dinner (her choice) once in a while. While these things are appreciated, they are not the glue that holds a relationship together, not entirely.
Routine is the death of relationships as it can be death for an individual as well. If too much of our life is routine, our brain begins to atrophy and we go through life like zombies. The same thing can happen in a relationship. With too much routine there is atrophy of the heart, a decrease in sincere and loving communications. We go through the paces of relating but nobody's home.
My wife has these cards that say "Good for one hug." She will occasionally bring one out and collect her hug. Now I have the card and can return it to her later. On her recent birthday, I decided to take her out to breakfast and dinner. That doesn't make me a big spender but it was a gesture that she appreciated. An occasional little gift because you see it and it reminds you of your mate is appropriate. Grocery stores and drugstores have greeting cards. An appropriate greeting card for no reason at all can give your relationship a big boost.
Here's an easy way to express your heartfelt love. Practice saying, "Thank you." Your mate does things for you all the time and as you turn into a zombie in your relationship, you may begin to take these things for granted. "Thank you" is a powerful aphrodisiac. Give it a try. Love is also expressed when you pitch in with the dishes or the cooking or any other household chore. It confirms your partnership, the idea that we're in this together.
Be more spontaneous and keep the spark alive. Surprise your mate and surprise yourself. You'll get plenty of relationship mileage out of simple kindness.
