Restrictions on gun ownership needed

This is the old issue again. Raising whenever there is an issue, yet no solution has seem been found...

Republican presidential candidate John McCain declared he believes in "no gun control," making the strongest affirmation of support for gun rights since the Virginia Tech massacre.

The Arizona senator said the country needs better ways to identify dangerous people like the gunman who killed 32 people and himself in the Blacksburg, Virginia Tech., rampage. But he opposed weakening gun rights.

GOP rival Rudy Giuliani, too, voiced his support for the Second Amendment on Wednesday, but not in such absolute terms. Once an advocate of strong federal gun controls, the former New York mayor said "this tragedy does not alter the Second Amendment" while indicating he favors the right of states to pass their own restrictions.

This indication by both strong presidential candidates has indicated the gun issue is too strong for anyone to touch. No one has the guts to tell the public that control is the answer to criminal event. No one has the guts to challenge National Rifle Association.

Opponents of gun control shout, "No!" Guns don't kill people, people kill people, they say, and anyway, if everybody were carrying weapons, someone would have taken out the mass murderer and all would have been fine.

The guns shop owner who sold the gun to the killer told TV that he belived everyone should be armed in order to protect themselves.

These are all stupid arguments, driven by the stupid politics of gun control in the United States.

Government could prevent others to sell weapons to so called evil axis countries like Iran and North Korea. Why they could not do the same thing to guns?

In almost all other spheres, we act reasonably when faced with new problems. When Richard Reid showed that nasty things could be done with shoes on airplanes, airport security started examining shoes. When liquids were seen as potentially dangerous, we made sure limited liquid is allowed on plane.

In its zeal to defend our inviolable right to bear arms, is the National Rifle Association going to argue for concealed carry on airplanes? If not, won't the organization be violating its core principle that all of us should be armed at all times?

No one pretends that smarter gun laws would prevent all violence. But with tougher laws we could at least put the guns on those safer hands.
