How to dress appropriately for your age without looking old

In today's modern world people are looking younger all the time. You don't have to dress for the age you are. Instead you can dress the age you look.

Today people live healthier lifestyles and look after themselves better. Consequently they are looking younger and that's before plastic surgery. As far as fashion goes the gap between young and old is closing in. Just what is dressing appropriately for your age these days anyway?

The young are confused. You tell by the way they get facial piercings and tattoos, it's the only way they can look different from their parents!

Besides who are these arrogant people who say mature people's fashion can't evolve with the times as young people's do? Pull your pants up or get some more visually attractive underwear I say. Have a look at the way you look before getting offended by the way older people dress.

To dress "the age you look" first you have to decide what age that is. Then get a second opinion. New people that you meet can be a good barometer. When the conversation gets around to age (and it usually does) people react if they think you look a different age to what they expect you to say.

No matter what the outcome the next step is to find people to identify with who dress in styles you like. This is where catalogues and fashion magazines come in. Find inspiration from people who look a similar age to the age you look and have the same body shape as you.

When you've decided on some styles you think will suit you, go shopping and try them on. Invite a supportive friend to go with you or go to a store that has an in house stylist. If you can afford it hire a stylist because they will be honest with you and give an unbiased opinion.

Buy quality clothes in designs that don't date and mix and match them with seasonal fashions that you feel comfortable in. Generally aim for smart casual, classic formal and if required elegant evening wear. Then accessorise up or down to compliment the outfit.

The main thing to remember is to look and feel comfortable in whatever you are wearing. This will give you confidence and bring out your personality.

Once you achieve this people will notice you before they notice how you are dressed and they won't be concerned about how old you are. In fact they may even be jealous of how great you look for your age. This I believe is what is meant when people say "dressing appropriately"!
